HiTracy, I just ordered from Herrschners (too many great bargains on crochet thread-my weakness) a couple of weeks ago and my order came in yesterday and I found a Gimbel & Sons catalog at the bottom. Hubby enjoyed looking at it. I ignore it and file 13'd it without looking. Had to call Herrschners anyway about sending me a 10" knitting needle case to fit 14" needles and point I blank asked the very nice rep to ensure my name is not being exchanged. I agree, catalog companies do not need to send the extra catalogs (often are duplicates previously sent in the mail) and should have an extended file to delete those, per one's request, that go in the box.

I've wanted a sofa slipcover for about two years and finally ordered one from Pottery Barn last week. I went online and researched my purchase extensively, and Pottery Barn offered the best option for my needs.

I'm pleased with what I received except that, yes, it came with catalogs in the box. Not just one, but both of the catalogs which I've entered into my Catalog Choice opt-outs (regular Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Bed and Bath). Merchants should find a way to update their systems, please, to avoid automatically enclosing catalogs in the shipments they send to the customers who've opted out.

Sorry that happened, Graham. I've reached the point where I now leave my credit card and checkbook at home whenever I visit a retail store. I bring cash and shop anonymously.

October update from the Glomski household: we received a grand total of only four catalogs for the entire month. I am extremely pleased with that result. My husband actually wants to keep two of those catalogs. The third catalog came from Lands' End, who mailed to my maiden name (apparently after revisiting their file of customers who've been lapsed for over a decade). The fourth catalog was a Pottery Barn Bed and Bath. I don't believe I've ever received a PB B&B before. My regular Pottery Barn opt-out has been successfully honored ever since I called customer service last June.

But eh, whatever. This latest mailing was almost certainly prepared before Williams-Sonoma agreed to honor Catalog Choice opt-outs. Times are tough for retailers. I honestly can't be upset with them for sending just one spinoff to see what type of response they might get. I do hope they'll refrain from sending another one, as I've now submitted an opt-out request for PB B&B specifically.

It is definitely nice to see more and more merchants joining Catalog Choice. Welcome, and I hope that this service proves to be very beneficial to you as you manage your mailings.

I found a small problem with Williams-Sonoma (Pottery Barn). I successfully unsubscribed from their mailings back in February and recently purchased something in their local store. Now I am back on their mailing list for catalogs! I called the company and they have no record that matches the customer number on the back of the catalog!! Do merchants just assume that because we purchase something in a store, we now want to get all the junk mail again. It has been years since I purchased anything from any print catalog. I have taken to calling the catalog sales number and requesting to purchase an unsubscription!

Welcome to the neighborhood Cash's and Oriental Trading!. I really enjoyed y'all. Maybe some day I can order...
For Oriental Trading: I loved ordering from your Bead Catalog. I really had no desire for 2-4 catalogs of other varieties of your catalogs per month. I joined CC.org because of the many unwanted catalogs you send out -please don't be offended but some of us have limited interests. Maybe other consumers will want to choose your other specialized catalogs.
Cash's: I may not have ordered...yet and tomorrow may be another year.
I am glad to see you join CC.org! Thanks!
CC.org: prior to them joining you, I had not received Oriental Trading or Cash's in months so they are true to their word!
