Real Time Member and Opt-out Counter is back … and climbing quickly

To see the current member count and number of catalog opt-out requests, log into your account.  The numbers are growing rapidly.  We were pleased to see the counts slow on Thanksgiving as we all took a break from the daily rush.  But thanks to a nice piece on All Things Considered by Melissa Block, an excellent editorial in the Chicago Tribune and the continued support from the Catalog Choice members, over 28,000 members signed up between Friday and Monday.

  1. Thank you so much for doing this. I will try to get others to do this. I have been concerned about this for a long time.

Within the first 10 days of joining the website I had declined over 150 catalogs – all newly arrived, some of which were in triplicate under different variations of my name; some arriving every week, few if any of the remotest interest, all ending up in 3 large recycling bins every week. I have reported another 30 or so to the database for consideration, and look forward to the day when I can retrieve my mail from the box without all this wasteful nonsense. Do catalog companies ever notice that I don’t buy anything???

Thank you for your efforts in helping us all rid ourselves of this mailbox plague!!!

I have become addicted to telling people about this website! Some of my friends roll their eyes at me now when I start talking about it…I don’t have the best memory and sometimes, i’ve already raved about the site to them!
I have a box that I keep beside our couch that’s been designated the “discontinue catalog” box so that everyday when my husband & I go through the mail, anything that we don’t want filling our mailbox any longer gets dropped in there. I’ve been logging on about 2x’s a week to keep up with the cancelling. Sometimes, if the catalog has good gift ideas or something I might be intereseted in at a later time, I go to the “My choices” page, click on the details and bookmark the catalog’s website for future use. THANK YOU CATALOG CHOICE!!!!

What a great site! I get Pottery Barn Home and Pottery Barn Kids and I dont have kids or have a ‘Pottery Barn’ style house, I feel bad when I throw it away.

Interestingly there is another benefit to Catalog Choice, finding a catalog I have not received that interested me.

  6. [...] for “catalog choice” have been buzzing for months. According to the site’s blog, over 28,000 people registered for the service between last Friday and Monday alone. That sounds like a movement to [...]
