Catalog Choice is open for your opt-out request
Each year, 19 billion catalogs are mailed to American consumers. That is 63 catalogs for every man, woman and child in the United States.
Sadly, most of these catalogs are unsolicited. Plus, all this mailbox clutter takes its toll on the environment. Catalog paper (3.6 million tons) adds up to 38 trillion BTUs, enough energy to power 1.2 million homes each year. It also produces 5.2 million tons of carbon dioxide, equal to the annual emissions of two million cars.
Today, we’re pleased to launch the first free service that consumers can use to opt-out of catalogs. Now it is as easy to opt-out of a mail order catalog as it is to make a purchase.
We built the service with the best interest of merchants too. Merchants can request a free account (contact info (at) catalogchoice.org) that will allow them to obtain the list of opt-out requests in electronic format for their catalogs. The electronic file will make it easy to incorporate the consumers requests into the mailing list creation process.
If you have not signed up yet, hurry on over to the sign-up form and with a few clicks you can stop the waste. We have made it easy to invite all your friends. Once you have signed up, go to Invite a Friend and tell all your buddies about the service.
As you use the service, if you have any suggestions or questions, click the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page and your note will go directly to our customer service team.
Our software team, Makalumedia, has done a tremendous job at making the site fast and easy to use. Give it a try, we think you can opt-out for those unwanted catalogs in seconds. If only it was that easy to take out the recycling.
